Ahead of his WWE Championship opportunity on Monday Night RAW against The Miz, Bobby Lashley told me how Brock Lesnar is only “one person” he’d like to defend the WWE Championship against, but believes Drew McIntyre is now the Superstar to beat.
The Almighty was asked by Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy to about his previous comments regarding the possibility of a match with Brock Lesnar, but The Dominator now believes Drew McIntyre has overtaken Brock after The Scottish Warrior’s monumental win at WrestleMania 36.
“As far as Brock, Brock is one person but how I look at it is Drew beat Brock in, like, no time. So, of course, my sights were set on Brock for some time but, like I said, Drew is the man, Drew is the one that beat him, Drew beat Goldberg.”
Lashley did acknowledge that a clash with Brock Lesnar is “that mystery dream match” that everyone wants, but said his aim is to be the best, and the only way to do that is by beating the “top guy” – naming The Scottish Warrior in that role.
“Of course Brock is that kind of mystery match, dream match that everybody has wanted us to have for some time now but right now, I’m looking to be the best and right now the best is Drew. Drew is the top guy. If I beat Miz, or when I beat Miz, I think Drew is the guy.”
Lashley, of course, has previously challenged McIntyre for the WWE Championship. Despite being unsuccessful in winning the title himself, the Hurt Business man would prove to be the catalyst in McIntyre losing the title at Elimination Chamber – destroying the Scotsman after a brutal Elimination Chamber Match.
Lashley also reflected upon his own personal journey, recalling how he “paid dues” by being involved in comedic storylines before being built as a destroyer. Lashley would laugh at the mention of the “Lashley’s sisters” segment, before saying he looks back with no ill feelings.
“Well, it was always me. First of all, it was always me. What I always tell people is that I love and enjoy every single thing that I’ve done in the WWE, and everything that I’ve done period. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, you weren’t where you were supposed to be’ – everything is a journey, everything is a journey. My journey was, of course, a little different since coming back but, man, I look back at it and I say, you know what? it just shows that I’m willing to pay the dues and shows that I’m in there for the show, and I’m it shows I’m ready for my time.”
