Blue Meanie “Wore A Disguise” To Keep AEW Appearance Quiet

Former WWE Superstar Blue Meanie has revealed how he “wore a disguise” to keep his recent AEW appearance quiet.

Speaking with Inside The Ropes’ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy for Issue 17 of Inside The Ropes Magazine, Blue Meanie spoke about his recent AEW appearance, and how it all came about – calling himself a “cheap date” since he lives near the venue he shocked the world by appearing at.

“I guess since the show was in Philly and I live in Philly, I’m kind of a cheap date. So there’s no airfare, no hotel. Just show up and hang out in catering for a little bit and then… No, I’m just kidding. They reached out and said, ‘Hey, you know, we’re in Philly…’ Tony Khan’s a big ECW fan. When the BWO came out as KISS, you know, at the ECW show The Doctor Is In, there’s there was a young Tony Khan in the crowd holding up signs.”

Blue Meanie went on to say that his response to the invite was incredibly quick, but that he had fun trying to keep it all secret.

“So Tony is always a good guy. Well, Tony, he’s a great guy, but always a big fan. And you know, in Philly, you know, why not have somebody who was a staple of ECW with the Blue World Order? I just make a cameo. And they reached out, they were like, Hey, you want to do something? I say absolutely. And you know, they gave me the details, but the fun part was trying to keep it a secret.”

The ECW legend went on to say his friends “hate” him because he’s so good at keeping secrets from them, recalling that his wife made him a disguise to appear in AEW without anyone knowing beforehand.

“My friends hate me because I truly believe in kayfabe and not saying anything. One time, I made a cameo on MLW and I had a friend who was going there as a fan to watch the show. He’s like, ‘Dude, you were texting me like you’re at home’ and then two minutes later, you’re walking through the curtain. I hate you!”

“So when it came to AEW that was like the ultimate try to, you know, keep kayfabe. You know, my wife worked on a disguise for me. What would you wear that you normally won’t wear? You know, I’m on Google Maps scoping out where the entrance is, and it was like a scene out of a movie.

When asked about what the disguise was, Blue Meanie revealed that he went all in – but was aided by the increased wearing of masks over the past two years.

“Oh, I looked like a taxi driver, to be honest. It was like a button up plaid shirt, and she got me the little Jeff cap. And you know, a mask, thank God for that. Well, not thank God for masks. I mean, we need them, but the mask covered up this part of me, so you just get my eyes and my big motto is you can go anywhere, just walk in like you belong there. And I just walked through and nobody even looked at me.”

Blue Meanie went on to say that tag team partner Crowbar didn’t even recognise him at first.

“So, they said I was going to be with Crowbar on the show. So I get to the building… I took an Uber. So I’m halfway down the ramp. I was like, ‘Oh, let me finish off my drive here,’ and I finish off the drive, Crowbar walks by me. I go ‘Hey! Crowbar!’ He turns around was, like, looking at me. I just pulled down my mask and go, ‘Ahhh!’ So that was a lot of fun. You know, a little bit of excitement for my week.”
