The WWE Tag Team Championships have seen multiple makeshift teams win the titles.
Modern day fans will be familiar with AJ Styles and Omos teaming up to become champions, or even more bizarrely, Braun Strowman and 10 year old Nicholas capturing the titles at WrestleMania 34.
Bizarre Team Originally Scheduled To Win WWE Tag Team Championships
The pairing of odd couple teams is not a new thing, as past random pairings that have gone on to become champions include William Regal and Eugene and the team of Bob Backlund and Pedro Morales.
Goldust is a former Superstar who has held the championships on 3 separate occasions, twice with real life brother Cody Rhodes, and once with Booker T. The man now known as Dustin Rhodes was due to win the titles one more time while in WWE with a different partner, Ruthless Aggression Star Gene Snitsky.
Snitsky appeared on the Monday Mailbag with Mike Chioda show. The former WWE star detailed how he and Goldust were due to win the titles, but plans were changed due to Goldust needing to get help:
We were supposed to get the tag team straps when I was teaming with Goldust, and then he had a meltdown and that went by the wayside. They were going to do merch [merchandise]. We had a meeting with Stephanie (McMahon), they were going to do merch and all kind of stuff, and we were going to win the straps. Then, he calls me, leaves a voice message just going off the deep end. Obviously, he needed to get some help and get cleaned up. I can’t fault him for that, but we were supposed to win the tag team belts,”
Gene Snitsky never won a championship during his time with the company. Snitsky’s career on Raw is best known for his involvement in the controversial storyline involving Lita and Kane.
