On the October 10th episode of Monday Night Raw DX celebrated their 25th anniversary. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Sean Waltman and Road Dogg all appeared on the show which was also the season premiere of the red brand.
However, one particular star was notable by their absence, and that star was Billy Gunn. Although it may not have been a surprise that Gunn didn’t appear as he currently works for AEW, in the days after the show, Road Dogg claimed that at one point he was all set to join his former stablemates.
“Of Course I Would Have Liked To Have Been There” – Billy Gunn
Billy Gunn has now offered his thoughts on missing out on the reunion, after Road Dogg had earlier suggested that he less than impressed by the situation. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Gunn explained that while he would have loved to have been involved, he understands that things are never straightforward now he works for AEW.
“Of course, I would have liked to have been there, but I understand that I work for another company,” Gunn says. “It was a collective decision. I’m not putting it on anyone. I’m not sour about it. We’re two separate companies, and it just didn’t work out.”
The WWE Hall of Famer has enjoyed something of a career renascence in recent months with his popularity soaring alongside The Acclaimed. Daddy Ass revealed that there is a similar feeling between his current scissoring partners as there was between the stars in DX in the 1990’s.
“We jell so well together,” Gunn says. “We’re not trying to fight each other. DX was so good because everybody knew their spot and none of us were trying to jockey for position. It’s the same here. We fit together in The Acclaimed, and we’re focused on doing the best thing collectively for the group. The goal is to make this the best this can be, and I’m here to help them be the best they can be. I want them to have the same success I had.”
It was recently reported that AEW President Tony Khan was ready to let Billy Gunn appear on Raw, but only if WWE mentioned AEW on air.
