Billy Gunn has opened up about how he remains in such incredible shape despite being 58 years old.
While Billy Gunn has always looked after himself and stayed in in-ring shape, the star is arguably currently looking better than ever, despite being almost 60-years-old.
Not only has Gunn retained an impressive physique, he also still wrestles and continues to perform at a high level.
Speaking in a new interview with Men’s Health, the Attitude Era legend broke down the secrets behind his fitness regime. Interestingly, the star revealed that his whole approach is more to do with nutrition than lifting weights.
“Nowadays, I have a bunch of great people around me that are helping me. Back in the day, my thing with nutrition was never anything like what it is now. It used to drive guys nuts that I could eat anything I wanted and not gain any bad weight. I could eat and eat and eat, and my metabolism would take care of it. Genetics played a pretty good part in it.
Now, everything I do revolves around my nutrition. I am so anal about it. I know for a fact that if my nutrition is not on point, everything else completely falls apart. For me it’s a pain in the ass, because I take my food and everything I eat during the day on the road with me all the time. I have a big bag for my food; I have a meal-prep lady who puts together all my meals; I take egg whites with me; I take my oatmeal with me; I take everything with me.
I need to do this to maintain what I want to maintain, because I’m doing this with my kids and it’s so much fun. I also don’t want to be that guy who’s just holding on. If we’re being honest, ego plays a little part in this. I like what I can do with food. Wrestlers are not bodybuilders; it’s a whole different world.
Those guys know about nutrition. Now that I’ve been in that bodybuilding world, I know how valuable nutrition is. That is my number-one thing, because if my nutrition isn’t on point, my training’s not on point, my traveling is miserable, and my everyday life is miserable. That’s how important nutrition is to me now.”
Billy Gunn made his in-ring debut back in the late 1980’s eventually signing with the WWF in 1993 as one half of the Smoking Gunns. In the years that followed he became part of D-X, and teamed with Road Dogg as the New Age Outlaws. The pair went on to become of the most popular teams in history winning tag team gold on six occasions.
Following stints in IMPACT Wrestling, New Japan and on the independent scene, Gunn signed with AEW in 2019 where he teams with his sons Colten and Austin as The Gunn Club. The veteran was most recently in action on the April 15th edition of Rampage where the Gunn Club were defeated by the Blackpool Combat Club.
