Since Saraya arrived in AEW she has been greeted as a hero by fans who have celebrated her remarkable return to the ring.
After suffering a second serious neck injury in December 2017 it was believed that the Brit would never wrestle again. But fast forward to November 2022 and Saraya was back in the ring, but not with WWE, in AEW.
Since becoming All Elite the star has been feuding with Britt Baker. This rivalry led to a tag team match on the January 11th edition of Dynamite where the former WWE star teamed with Toni Storm to take on Baker and Jamie Hayter. The end of the match came when Hikaru Shida threw a kendo stick into the ring which was quickly spotted by Baker who used the weapon to grab the win. Shida had been overlooked in the leadup to the match as Saraya chose Storm to be her partner.
Toni Storm And Saraya Shake Up AEW’s Women’s Division
On January 18th, Storm was due to take on Willow Nightingale and featured in a backstage segment with Shida and Saraya before the match. Storm and Saraya hinting at the events that would follow.
Saraya: “[To Shida] I don’t know what you were thinking last week. What kind of stupid idiotic move was it to throw a kendo stick into the ring…
Storm: “It wasn’t Shida’s fault that Brit got hold of the kendo stick. I’ve known Shida for years, she’s solid, she’d never do anything like that. The problem is these AEW homegrown girls, they’ve just been in this bubble, they’ve never done anything else. They don’t know what we know.”
In the ring Storm grabbed the win after Saraya had climbed onto the apron. After the bell the two women attacked Nightingale as Shida looked on from the outside. Ruby Soho ran in to make the save and run the pair off.
