Former WWE star John DiGiacomo, best known for performing as ‘Jamison’ or ‘Jameson’ – the sidekick of the Bushwhackers – has recalled a heartwarming meeting he had with Vince McMahon where the WWE CEO recognised him having not seen one another for two decades.
Speaking to Pro Wrestling Defined’s Jonathan O’Dwyer, DiGiacomo opened up about his son’s appearance at Extreme Rules 2014 during a Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena match. DiGiacomo’s son wore altar boy robes and was ringside for the clash, but it was backstage where father and son met Vince McMahon.
“Vince looks up at me from being down on one knee. He says, ‘You must be the father?’ I said, ‘Yeah, Vince, you recognize me?’ He’s like, ‘Ah yeah, you look so familiar.’ So I made the Jamison face, like this [cross-eyed], and he freaked. Big hug, lifted me off the ground, ‘Oh my God!’ Telling me, ‘I’ve gotta take you around. There’s still people here in TV from when you were here. They’d love to see you. Oh my God!’”
Jamison noted how the meeting almost never happened, as he almost declined the opportunity due to how late they’d get home from the show.
“I almost said no because we had to be up so early the next morning and those pay-per-views sometimes [finish late]. I knew we wouldn’t be home until after midnight. But I said, you know, I’ve gotta do this, I’ve gotta have to be able to share this experience with my son because of what I did there. He was great.”
Meanwhile, two men Jamison knows well, The Bushwhackers, sat down with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy recently, and also shared their thoughts on Vince McMahon. After jokingly calling McMahon “Caesar” the pair spoke about their relationship with the WWE CEO. Luke said they had a good relationship before Butch elaborated.
“Yeah, we had a fantastic relationship with Vince. When we went up there and he said, “Guys, I would like to maybe turn you good guys,” and blah, blah, blah and I got up on his table, right in front of him, I’d never met him before, my face was about two inches from his face. I was on his desk, on my hands and knees. And I said, “Vince, if you want us babyfaces with faces like this, you go right ahead!”
