Big E will defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship at Fastlane against Apollo Crews after Crews accepted E’s challenge on SmackDown.
The two men have been involved in a feud with each other for a number of weeks. Big E had missed a few weeks of action due to a brachial plexus – a collection of nerves in the shoulder – injury. This occurred after Crews would throw the ringside steps onto the Intercontinental Champion.
Crews would then unveil a new personality complete with a Nigerian accent. Crews claims to be descended from Nigerian royalty and has been flanked by two members of the ‘elite guard.’
On this week’s SmackDown, Big E would defend his title in an open challenge against Sami Zayn. Prior to the match E had challenged Crews to come and face him but he did not appear. Apollo Crews would attack Big E after his successful title defence against Zayn.
In a backstage interview, the royal descendant would say that he does not respond to anybody calling his name. Instead, Crews decides when he will strike.
"I gladly accept your challenge for the Intercontinental Title at #WWEFastlane!"

Fastlane will take place on Sunday the 21st of March. In addition to the Intercontinental Championship, the WWE Universal Title will be on the line as Roman Reigns defends against Daniel Bryan. The only other match confirmed for the event so far is for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will defend against Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks.
Big E has held the WWE Intercontinental Championship since Christmas Day 2020. E would defeat Sami Zayn in a Lumberjack Match for the title on SmackDown.
