Big E has revealed that he wishes that the recent marquee clash between The New Day and The Bloodline could have had a longer build.
Even before Big E won the WWE Championship he had been hinting that he had his sights set on Universal Champion Roman Reigns. So as soon as the New Day star claimed the illustrious title, a showdown between the pair seemed almost inevitable.
After a brief head-to-head on SmackDown it was announced that The New Day would meet The Bloodline on September 20th on Raw.
Ahead of the match some fans questioned why the match was taking place so quickly, especially with so little time to hype the contest. Speaking to Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, Big E said that he wishes that the match could have had a longer build, adding that he hopes the six men will get to meet again some time down the road.
“I wish we had more time and more build,”
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to revisit it because obviously, it didn’t really conclude. Not in the most satisfying…not saying it was bad, but I hope we can do it again. We such a great history with the Usos, I have so much respect for those guys. They are easily, I hate compiling lists and what not, but they are definitely in the conversation for greatest tag team of all time. They are incredible. Roman is just doing absolutely incredible work, the stuff he’s been doing the last year has been incredible. It’s been really cool just to have that moment. I love that hot tag moment where we both slowly start to get in the ring and feeling fans start to build. It’s fresh and that’s the beautiful thing too. I haven’t been in this position of working title matches. There are so many guys I haven’t been in the ring with, especially singles, where I haven’t been positioned the same way. Now, we have so many different fresh matchups and I’m excited.”
The match itself quickly broke down and was eventually cut short by an interfering Bobby Lashley. After Lashley laid waste to everyone in sight, The Bloodline were able to capitalise on the chaos and grab the win.
On the most recent episode of the show Big E ended up facing Lashley not once, but twice. After the first clash ended in a no contest, the pair met again in the main event inside a steel cage. The Champion eventually retained his title, hitting the All-Mighty with a Big Ending from the cage.
