Big E making an in-ring return remains an uncertainty.
The former WWE Champion remains on the sideline after suffering a broken neck due to an accident that took place back in March 2022. In an update following the accident, Big E revealed that he would not require surgery on the broken neck, but did fracture his C1 and C6 vertebrae.
Although many would love to see The New Day member doing what he loves once again, Big E is being understandably cautious regarding any future matches.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Big E was asked if there was any return update that he could share with the fans. The multi-time Tag Team Champion revealed that there currently is no return date and the time away from the ring has been a lot longer than first suspected:
“I wish I had more information for you. Right now, there is really no timeline. I’ve been to a few different doctors who have looked over my scans. I don’t have any issues, I feel great, but I broke my C1 in two different places, it’s called a Jefferson fracture and because of the nature of the fracture, it takes longer to heal. Initially, they told me three months. I thought three months and I would be back to wrestling, but things ended up being more complex.
Addressing the nature of his injury, the former World Champion stated that he would consider another run if it was a less serious injury that sidelined him and that he has a much different perspective on life in 2023:
There are chances I might take with a broken forearm or finger. An ACL (injury), I’ve had before. I started wrestling when I was 23, and at the time, I was like, ‘If I die in the ring, doing what I love, so be it.’ I’m 37 now and you see life differently and you have other things to think about. I’m trying to make the best decision for myself and my health moving forward. I don’t have any answers,”
What Have Doctors Advised Big E To Do?
While still not cleared to wrestle, The New Day member is still very active within the company, making frequent appearances to promote the company and occasionally appearing at PLEs. While taking part in a press conference at SummerSlam, Big E revealed that doctors have advised him not to wrestle again.
Looking ahead to WrestleMania, Big E has pitched a unique match.
H/t to Fightful.
