Big Cass On DDP’s Role In His Recovery – “He Helped A Lot”

By James Holder. Published 15th April 2021.
Big Cass

Former WWE Superstar Big Cass recently returned to action at IMPACT Tag Team Champion Doc Gallows’ Lariato Pro Wrestling Guild promotion.

Now known as CaZXL, Cass appeared in tremendous shape as he made the save for former tag team partner Enzo Amore, performing now as nZo.

Big Cass appeared to a rapturous reception, in what was his first public appearance since 2019.

Along with his tag team partner Amore, Big Cass had seemed destined for superstardom in WWE after a widely-praised run in NXT. However, both men were subsequently released (On separate occasions) in 2018.

Following his departure from WWE, Cass has spoken openly about his struggles with alcohol addiction, anxiety and depression. The seven-foot-tall star later enlisted the help of Diamond Dallas Page in an effort to conquer those demons.

Speaking in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Cass has revealed that DDP helped him a lot, encouraging him to share the struggles that he was going through.

“He helped a lot. He was one of the first people to give me a platform and encourage me to share what I was going through. If I didn’t do that then people can’t relate to it. That was a big first step was me admitting it. I think I admitted it in a promo backstage after I wrestled Jon Moxley. But the video that DDPY put out really got the word out to what I was going through. And it was through Dallas that I met my girlfriend [Lexi Nair, daughter of Dallas Page and AEW Backstage reporter].”

Elsewhere in the interview, Cass discussed his return to wrestling and what his future may have in store. The former WWE star also lifted the lid on a 2019 seizure caused by alcohol withdrawal which left him hospitalised. Commenting that he was too embarrassed to admit the cause of his health problems at the time.
