Bianca Belair will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Carmella on the July 23rd episode of the blue brand.
It has been something of a whirlwind couple of weeks for Bianca Belair as the champion was originally slated to defend her title against Bayley in an “I Quit” Match at Money In The Bank.
However, Bayley sustained a serious injury while training ahead of the bout and will now miss the next nine months of action. In the wake of Bayley’s injury, former champion Carmella found herself at the head of the queue as a new potential challenger.
As WWE welcomed back fans on July 16th, Belair defeated Carmella with the K.O.D to retain her prized championship. Predictably the result didn’t sit well with the challenger who complained that she had only six days to prepare for the match.
Responding to the comments on Talking Smack, Belair said that if Carmella wanted a rematch she would be happy to oblige. This led to the match being set for July 23rd.
The July 23rd episode of SmackDown will be presented in partnership with the Rolling Loud Miami music festival.
The partnership will see a split-site broadcast where a number of matches will air from the rap festival with the remainder coming from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.
The deal marks the first time that WWE have partnered with a major music festival.
