Bianca Belair has opened up about her infamous 26 second defeat to Becky Lynch at SummerSlam, breaking down how she responded to the “rough” defeat.
After winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 37, Bianca Belair headed into SummerSlam scheduled to take on Sasha Banks in a highly anticipated rematch.
However, Banks ended up missing the show and The Boss was replaced by a returning Becky Lynch. The Man had been absent from WWE for more than a year owing to the birth of her first child. While many fans expected an epic encounter between the pair, Lynch pinned Belair in under 30 seconds to claim the SmackDown Women’s crown.
Speaking during a recent appurtenance on After The Bell with Corey Graves, Belair opened up about the controversial defeat. The current Raw Women’s Champion said that it was initially tough to accept the loss as she felt she had done everything right while being champion.
“Yeah, it’s like you you’re completely emerged into it [WWE lifestyle]. You know, sometimes it’s hard to like, separate the two because we throw so much of ourselves into this. And you know, I just really realised in that moment, like, as quickly as it came for me, you know, my very first year on main roster, I was at main eventing Wrestlemania.
And now I’m the champion, as quickly as it can come, it can go and that’s what literally happened to me. And in that moment, like it was rough, because I’m just like, I felt like, Okay, I’m doing everything right. Like, I’m doing everything right, I’m champion, and, and then I lose it. I’m just like, how do you? Where do you go from there when you feel like you’ve done everything right, and everything still fails?”
Continuing on, the EST described the situation as “rough” before focusing on the fact that she was part of a big moment on the show, and it was about more than just her run with the title.
“So it was rough, like, um, you know, my husband, like, help check my perspective. And, you know, I like hung around my family that night, and to like, cheer me up. But, you know, I just like, I always try to keep a perspective of like, okay, well, when I was champion, my thing was, I never wanted to just be about me, like, I want to be about my fans, I want people to feel some like, I wanted to be about my impact.
So like, yeah, I lost SummerSlam in 26 seconds, but my impact that I have on people is gonna last way longer than 26 seconds. And so I was just trying to turn this negative into a positive. And then, for me, like, I’m all about moments, like, I want to be a part of huge moments in WWE, like the most talked about moments in WWE SummerSlam, granted, I lost 26 seconds, but my name was in the conversation of the most of the biggest moment at SummerSlam.”
Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch continued to feud with each other all the way up to WrestleMania 38 where Belair defeated Big Time Becks to win the Raw Women’s Title.
The two women are set to renew hostilities once more at Hell In A Cell, where Belair defends her title in a Triple Threat Match against Lynch and Asuka.
