SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair has shared some thoughts about her original opponent for Money In The Bank, Bayley after the role model was ruled out of action with a serious knee injury.
Bayley had been the bane of Belair’s life after The EST of WWE captured the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship from Sasha Banks in the main event of WrestleMania 37. Belair had defeated Bayley to retain her title both at WrestleMania Backlash and again inside Hell In A Cell in June. Belair was once again set to defend the title against Bayley at Money In The Bank in an ‘I Quit’ match before Bayley suffered a serious knee injury after participating in training at the Performance Center.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Bianca Belair detailed just how much working with Bayley has meant to her:
“It meant everything for me to work with Bayley. She’s been there every step of the way for me until now. She gave me momentum going into the Royal Rumble, we came full circle after WrestleMania, and she helped show the SmackDown universe who I am. She brought out a whole new side of me at Hell in a Cell.”
“Fighting Bayley after winning the title at WrestleMania was perfect. I’ve been very fortunate to work with her. She has contributed to so much of my success. She’s made me better, and I’m going to carry that forward and carry that through.”
Belair then went on to praise Bayley as a leader in the locker room and one that will be missed during her time on the injured reserve list.
“Bayley is a locker room leader and an amazing person inside and out. I’ve watched and learned from her, the way she handles situations and adapts so easily and quickly. She has the ability to make things look so easy. We’re going to miss her so much while she’s out. She’s a legend in the making, but she does so much more than just make it about herself. She gives and contributes so much to the locker room.”
Bianca Belair faced off with Carmella for her title on the SmackDown before Money In The Bank and is scheduled to once again on the 23rd of July episode of the blue brand’s show.
