Bianca Belair – “Even Though I Won The Title, No One Lost That Night”

Bianca Belair & Sasha Banks

Recalling her SmackDown Women’s Championship win over Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37, Bianca Belair has described the match as “bigger than us.”

After winning the 2021 Royal Rumble Bianca Belair named Sasha Banks as her opponent for WrestleMania. This set up a match for the ages. While both women gave a top draw, emotion-laden performance, the match also made history.

Not only was the clash the first time a women’s singles match had headlined the event, it was also the first time that two black women had met in single’s action on the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All.’

In conversation with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Belair explained that the match was about more than titles, adding that she’s expecting a rematch.

“That night at WrestleMania, our match was about so much more than winning the title… We made history. And I’m fully expecting a rematch.”

Reflecting further, the EST of WWE said that “no one lost that night.”

“That moment was bigger than us… Even though I won the title, no one lost that night. That’s why there are videos of Sasha smiling at the end. She had so much fulfilment from what came out of that match. Now, when she comes back and the title is on the line, we’ll see who walks out as champion.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Belair delved into her pre-match rituals. The SmackDown Women’s Champion described how she stayed up all night before the Royal Rumble working on her gear while tucking into her cheat meal of choice, pizza.

Sasha Banks hasn’t appeared for WWE since her defeat at WrestleMania. Meanwhile, Belair still reigns over the blue brand, despite the best efforts of current rival Bayley
