Bayley is the new number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and will face Bianca Belair for the title at WrestleMania Backlash.
The match was announced for the May pay-per-view on the most recent edition of SmackDown on Friday night. Bayley ran down Belair in a backstage interview, calling her selfish and spoiled after Belair rebuffed Bayley’s advances to form a team.
Belair then confronted Bayley face to face but Bayley then offered praise for Belair’s performance at WrestleMania. Bayley then laughed in Belair’s face, showing that she didn’t mean her kind words.
Bayley is the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion in the title’s history. She held the title in her second reign for 380 days before dropping the belt to Sasha Banks. It was Banks that Belair in turn defeated in the main event of WrestleMania Saturday.
The host of ‘Ding Dong Hello’ had a very different WrestleMania to the champion. Bayley did not compete at WrestleMania 37 and was instead embarrassed by new WWE Hall Of Famers The Bella Twins. This came after Bayley repeatedly interrupted segments with WWE Hall Of Famers and the WrestleMania hosts Titus O’Neil and Hulk Hogan over the two nights.
The match between Bianca Belair and Bayley will mark the first title defence of any kind in Belair’s WWE career. WrestleMania Backlash is scheduled to take place inside the WWE ThunderDome on May 16th, 2021. The only other match scheduled for the event at this time is the WWE Championship match from Raw. Bobby Lashley will defend the title one more time against former champion Drew McIntyre.
