Bianca Belair revealed that she’s gotten some stellar advice from WWE legend John Cena.
Though she’s currently on top of the world as Raw Women’s Champion, the months following SummerSlam in 2021 were a different story. When Sasha Banks was unable to appear for their scheduled SmackDown Women’s Championship match, Becky Lynch made her surprise return to WWE for the first time in over a year and shocked the world when she defeated Belair in just 26 seconds.
The EST of WWE has spoken in the past about the event being one of the lowest points in her career, and in an interview with Inside the Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh and Alex McCarthy ahead of Clash at the Castle, she discussed the last minute nature of the decision and how she was left not knowing where to go next.
“Yeah, it was very last minute, very unpredictable. You know, but that’s how WWE is, you never know what’s gonna happen. But at the end of the day, it was very hard to process like even after the match was over and having to figure out okay, where do I go from here? You know, you go main event WrestleMania, you’re champion and then you win an ESPY, you’re like you did everything right, but it didn’t work out.”
Bianca Belair credits her husband Montez Ford for supporting her and helping her work through the difficult time after she lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
“So what do I do now and so to be able to be in the business was my husband, who can understand the ins and outs of the ups and the downs. I feel like I was really able to rely on him and we always are able to vent to each other and validate each other’s feelings. But then we’re like, Okay, we have to move forward. And how do we move forward? What is the perspective here? And so my husband helped me a lot.”
In addition to Montez Ford, Bianca Belair said that she received advice about moving forward from none other than John Cena, who helped her realize that losing her title wasn’t the end and that she had to refocus her mindset.
“John Cena was there at SummerSlam; we had an amazing conversation about, you know, perspective and, you know, mentally, your mindset, and where do you go from here and give me a whole lot of other examples of how like, this isn’t the end and so I’m always just so very grateful for John Cena and his words, his words of wisdom and the agenda he gave me that night.”
