WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix made a stunning return at WWE Day 1, backing up her husband Edge against Miz and Maryse.
The Miz and Edge have been trading heated words for weeks on Monday Night Raw after Miz and Maryse interrupted Edge’s WWE return on November 29. Even after agreeing to face each other at Day 1, the two continued to duke it out on television, most recently with Edge interrupting the vow renewal ceremony between Miz and Maryse on the December 27th episode.
With Maryse’s heavy involvement in the storyline, speculation has abounded that Edge’s wife Beth Phoenix may also become involved at some point, especially after announcing her departure from NXT commentary earlier in the month.
Maryse interfered throughout the Day 1 match, at one point putting The Miz’s foot on the rope to evade a pinfall and another time hitting Edge in the head with her loaded purse. As she was standing on the ring apron trying to cause more of a scene, Miz got a look of fear on his face and pointed for his wife to turn around.
Much to Maryse’s chagrin, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix stood on the ramp with a menacing glare on her face.

Phoenix made her entrance to the sounds of her Glamazon theme, chasing Maryse around the ring while The Miz looked on in horror. As Miz turned around after watching the scene unfold, Edge hit a spear and was able to gain the pinfall victory. Edge and Beth Phoenix celebrated together in the ring while Miz and Maryse looked on in disgust.

Beth Phoenix last appeared on WWE television at NXT 2.0 WarGames, which was her final night on commentary for the brand. She began commentating full time for NXT in May of 2019.
The former Diva’s Champion has not competed in the ring since her appearance in the 2020 Royal Rumble, though she did take an RKO from Randy Orton on the March 2, 2020 episode of Monday Night Raw.
While it remains to be seen what level of involvement Beth Phoenix will have in this storyline, it’s worth noting that Miz and Maryse are no strangers to mixed tag matches as husband and wife. They faced John Cena and his then-partner Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33, and they’ve also taken on the team of Daniel Bryan and his wife Brie Bella in the past.
