After the main event of Monday Night Raw, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix came to her husband Edge’s aid!
At WrestleMania 38, Damian Priest helped Edge to defeat AJ Styles and the two formed an alliance that would go on to be known as The Judgment Day. Rhea Ripley joined at WrestleMania Backlash, but the tables turned when Finn Balor became part of the group and kicked Edge out on the June 6th episode of Raw.
The Rated R Superstar has been at odds with his former allies since he made his grand return to WWE at SummerSlam, and two weeks ago, Damian Priest challenged him to a grudge match in Edge’s hometown of Toronto, ON, Canada.
Throughout the August 22nd episode of Raw, video packages played, making note of the fact that the WWE Hall of Famer hadn’t wrestled in Toronto in over a decade – before he was forced to step away from wrestling in 2011 due to his neck injury.
The main event was hard-hitting and full of passion, with Priest mandating that both Rhea Ripley and Finn Balor be absent from ringside as he wanted to end his former ally on his own. Adding to the emotion of the match was a tearful Beth Phoenix being shown in the crowd, cheering on her husband. After a tense back and forth, Edge managed to secure the victory following both a Canadian Destroyer and then a signature Spear.
However, his victory celebration was short-lived as Rhea Ripley entered the ring and hit the Rated R Superstar with a low blow before all members of The Judgment Day attacked their former leader. Enraged on behalf of her husband, the Glamazon made her way from the crowd to ringside and picked up a chair, facing off with Ripley before warding off all members of The Judgment Day.
It remains to be seen whether we see Beth Phoenix back inside the squared circle, but based on her previous interactions with The Miz and Maryse ahead of the 2022 Royal Rumble, fans are speculating that Phoenix might eventually return to the ring to exact revenge on Rhea Ripley.
Earlier in the night, fellow WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus made her WWE television return and addressed her hometown Toronto crowd before being interrupted by Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY.
