AEW star Buddy Matthews shares an update on his injury status.
Matthews was one of the hottest free agents signed by AEW. Upon arrival, he immediately allied with Malakai Black, Brody King, and Julia Hart to form the House of Black stable.
The 36-year-old wrestler amazed audiences with his stellar performances and looked poised to enter the title scene when he challenged Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship at AEW GrandSlam: Australia; however, tragedy struck minutes into his entrance when he injured his ankle.
While fans were expecting the star to make his comeback soon, the injury was taking longer than expected to heal, which caused concern; thankfully, an update shared by the Australian wrestler today will quell fans’ worries.
Matthews took to his Instagram stories, where he shared a picture with his wife, Rhea Ripley, informing fans that he would be undergoing surgery to repair his ankle.
AEW star Buddy Matthews’ Slow Recovery Was A Matter Of Great Concern To Fans
Fans will be happy to hear this update, as previously, Matthews had expressed concern about the time his ankle was taking to recover.
Matthews had shared in April that his ankle was not broken but had a partial ligament tear and cartilage damage, and he was looking to return to the ring as soon as possible.
However, during an Instagram Live in June, the Aussie high-flyer admitted that his injury was taking longer than expected to recover and that he had no motion in his ankle. He also stated that he thought he would be back in April, and the injury had a high chance of becoming chronic.
Thankfully, this surgery will help fix the injury that has been nagging him for months now.
We at ITR Wrestling send our best wishes to Buddy Matthews and wish him a speedy recovery.
