For a number of months it has been believed that Becky Lynch will be squaring off against Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 39.
However, it appears that the match will now not be taking place. Furthermore, there is no word on who Lynch or Rousey will now be wrestling at the event in California.
Becky Lynch Vs Ronda Rousey Off
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that he had been told that a match between Rousey and Lynch is not the plan. Someone who is “very well connected” described the planned bout as “dead.”
“Right now, [Lynch vs. Rousey] is not the plan. Things change, like we said.
I don’t know what Ronda’s match is or Becky’s match but as of today, as of this morning, it was said to me it is very unlikely, and another person who is very well-connected said, ‘I heard it’s dead’ and I asked and it’s not dead because nothing’s dead in WWE, somebody could get hurt and…but definitely not the plan right now.”
The report comes after it was earlier noted that there is a “very real possibility” that Dwayne Johnson could also miss the event. This in turn would mean that his bout with Roman Reigns would also be off. Should both of these reports be proven correct, it would leave WWE without two of their marquee bouts for WrestleMania.
With regard to The Rock’s potential involvement, Dave Meltzer noted the following in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“Regarding WrestleMania, Paul Levesque has made a decision on the Roman Reigns direction for WrestleMania in the event it is not Dwayne Johnson, which is a very real possibility. I don’t know that direction although Cody Rhodes would be the betting line favorite for those on the outside right now. So it’s not like there are multiple ideas for that match, only maybe two, Johnson and whoever the other plan would be with.
There remains a lot of talk of creating a second title for Raw (or Smackdown if they switch brands with Reigns or if someone beats Reigns) in 2023. But I’ve been told the story going around of that title being created with Rhodes, Rollins or McIntyre on night one of Mania this year is not the plan as of this week”
Cody Rhodes hasn’t wrestled since undergoing surgery in June, but did recently hint that he could be returning very soon.
