WWE once tried to get Becky Lynch to shave her head.
Although she’s now considered one of the biggest stars in WWE, Lynch didn’t really hit her stride until 2018, some three years after debuting on the main roster. Even then, her popularity exploded after WWE tried to turn the star heel, only for fans to cheer her like never before.
During the early years of her WWE career and before she began dating now-husband Seth Rollins, Lynch was in a relationship with Jeff Dye. Appearing on a recent episode of Wrestling With Freddie, Dye claimed that before she rose to the main event, WWE didn’t know what to do with Lynch and pitched for her to shave her head, and have an on-screen breakdown.
However, Lynch refused despite pressure from one writer in particular. A similar gimmick is currently being used by Shotzi on SmackDown, although in real life Shotzi shaved her head in support of her sister who is undergoing treatment for cancer.
“When I was with Becky, they didn’t know what to do with her and there was a writer that pitched like, ‘What if we have you just shave your head and act like you’re having a breakdown?’ And Becky was like, ‘No.’ It was even going to move forward,” Dye said. “They were like, ‘No, we think that’s a cool idea.’ This writer pitched like she would have to shave her head. [Becky said] ‘I’m not going to shave my head. What are you talking about?’
And so it never [took off] because Becky stood her ground and was like, ‘I’m not doing that.’ They never did it, which made me wonder if maybe Shotzi was like, ‘I’m going to shave my head for this thing.’ And then that same writer was like, ‘My story is going to get big. Wait, what? I have a thing for this.'”
Will Becky Lynch Be At SummerSlam?
While Shotzi is currently wrapped up in a feud with Bayley on SmackDown, Becky Lynch is due to take on Trish Stratus at SummerSlam. Lynch has been at war with the WWE Hall of Famer, since the veteran attacked her shortly after WrestleMania 39.
