Although she’s currently out of action with a shoulder injury, Becky Lynch remains of the biggest names in WWE in 2022. In recent years the star has headlined WrestleMania, enjoyed a record-breaking run with the Raw Women’s Championship and clashed with some of best female wrestlers in the world.
Despite her incredible success, Lynch’s journey to WWE superstardom was far from straightforward. The would-be star toiled across small venues in Europe, and even took an injury enforced break from the ring which lasted six years.
Becky Lynch Reveals Which WWE Star Changed Her Life
Speaking to Sky Sports Lynch opened up about her life before making it to the bright lights of WWE, which included a stint as an air stewardess for Aer Lingus. The Man explained that she lived with a persistent fear that she wasn’t doing what she was destined to do.
“I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life, I didn’t know how to get out, so it was a tough time for me. It was all encompassing and so hard for me to do any classes or take up any hobbies – I’d wake up with this gnawing feeling in my stomach that I wasn’t doing what I was meant to do.”
Lynch revealed that it was a conversation with fellow Irish star Finn Balor that helped her change her life. The former Raw Women’s Champion recalled Balor encouraging her to give wrestling another try.
“Balor is the one person that changed everything – he is the reason I am here, I was sitting down with him for lunch one day and saying how I didn’t know whether to come back and he said: ‘Go back now because I’m not sitting here with you in 10 years when it’ll be too late.”
Becky Lynch hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Bianca Belair at SummerSlam. During the bout, Lynch sustained a serious shoulder injury, but pushed through the pain to finish the match as planned. It is unknown when she will be back in action.
