Lita and Becky Lynch have made history by being the first female WWE Superstars to be featured on billboards in Saudi Arabia.
WWE began its controversial partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Entertainment in 2018 although the company had run shows in the country since 2014. The partnership ensured WWE would bring major shows to the Kingdom beginning with the Greatest Royal Rumble in April 2018.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the next event WWE hold in the Kingdom will be the Elimination Chamber on February 19th.
One of the biggest matches announced for the show so far will see WWE Hall of Famer Lita take on Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship. The match came about after a verbal back and forth led to Lita issuing a challenge to ‘The Man’ to put her title on the line, which Lynch quickly accepted.
Now, the two are featured on billboards in Jeddah advertising the event, a first for female WWE Superstars and something WWE describes as a “major cultural milestone in Saudi Arabia”. Both women commented on social media, saying that it is “an honor” for them.
“First time women have been featured on a @WWE billboard in Riyadh…What an honor!
Welcome to the Big time!! #WWEChamber”

“I am honored my match at #WWEChamber with @BeckyLynchWWE will be something special across generations … but especially for young women everywhere.”

This will be the first time that Lita has wrestled in Saudi Arabia, having previously been critical of WWE’s partnership with the Kingdom. However, the multi-time Women’s Champion recently addressed her earlier comments, saying that, although there’s a long way to go, the situation has changed and “you have to take opportunities when they are there”.
