Lita made a surprise return to WWE on the February 6th episode of Raw when she came to the aid of Becky Lynch who was battling Bayley in a Steel Cage match.
Over the following weeks, the duo formed a strong partnership and defeated Damage CRTL for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. This was the first time that either woman had held tag team gold, while it was Lita’s first championship win since 2006.
Speaking on the My Love Letter to Wrestling podcast with Mark Andrews, Becky Lynch reflected on her partnership with Lita, and what it meant to her. The former Raw Women’s Champion also explained how she doesn’t believe that their Tag Team Title win was part of the original plan.
“Well, it was all a bit crazy (winning Women’s Tag Titles with Lita). When that was decided, I don’t think that was never meant to be the plan and then they just took a side road and decided that would be the best outcome.
I think what was so great going into that match was that nobody knew what was going to happen and people had ideas and this could happen and then we could go this way or we could go that way and there was so many ways we could go.
Then to be standing side by side with the woman that inspired you to get into this in the first place when we’re talking about that grassroots thing of being back and I was coming down with my dyed red hair and my baggy pants and wearing my thong outside my clothes and trying to look like Lita and here I was standing side by side as an equal about to go capture the tag titles.
If you’re telling your teenage self that’s gonna happen when you’re older, teenage self would slap you across the face and tell you to get realistic, you know what I mean? So yeah, it was really awesome but she’s over the years become such a great friend and a mentor and I think because she was that misfit, that little rock and roll grunger that had big dreams and she recognized that in me, that it didn’t necessarily fit the mold but I had that love for the business and I think we’ve kind of been kindred spirits in that way.
Sometimes as a babyface, I almost don’t know how to interact with other babyfaces because The Man is so untrusting of everybody because she’s been burned so many times that sometimes I’m like… hello friend? (she laughed) I feel very awkward in that setting but if I was going to have a tag team partner, you couldn’t ask for better.
But even having gotten to do the story with her last year, as short as it was, it was one of the stories in wrestling that I’ve been most proud of and one of the matches I’m most proud of so now I’ve had a lot of history with the person who inspired me the most, the woman who inspired me the most which is great.”
Becky Lynch To Address Trish Stratus On Raw
Becky Lynch returned to WWE television on the May 8th episode of Raw attacking Trish Stratus. The Man was out for revenge after being on the receiving end of a beatdown from Stratus a couple of weeks earlier after the pair had lost the Women’s Tag Team Titles. It was later revealed that Stratus was only competing in the match after attacking Lita backstage.
It has been announced that Lynch will be back on the red brand on May 15th to address the WWE Hall of Famer.
