Night one of WrestleMania 39 saw the trio of Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY, collectively known as Damage CTRL, battle to a losing effort against WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Becky Lynch and Lita and their partner Trish Stratus in a well received six-woman tag team bout.
With that defeat possibly drawing a line under that feud, it is currently unknown what is next on the landscape for former two-time women’s champion and Inside The Ropes Magazine Female Wrestler Of The Year 2020. In a tweet sent on Sunday, however, the leader of Damage CTRL may have lifted a lid on her next move and it could be a surprising one.
“And sometimes the most romantic love story comes to an end. Bye”
Bayley hints at WWE departure in cryptic tweet
Some believe the tweet may highlight Bayley’s desire to move on from WWE, with some feeling she could be keen on a move to Japan. Earlier this week Bayley admitted she missed who old tag team partner Sasha Banks, now knows as Mercedes Mone in NJPW. In an interview with The Ringer Wrestling she also noted how she was inspired by her friend’s decision to carve a new career path for herself:
“I was just texting her today or yesterday and was like, ‘Man, I miss having you here.’ I miss her in this environment. I miss her for the biggest show of the year. She’s who I feed off of for inspiration or ideas or (someone) to vent to.
I know I can trust her the most. At the same time, what she’s doing, she’s carving a new path, she’s following her craziest dreams, she’s doing it literally on her own. You don’t have the WWE banner behind you. She’s doing everything she ever wanted, so successfully. To me, that’s inspiring.”
It is, however, also possible that the WrestleMania defeat could spark a change of direction in Bayley’s WWE career, including a possible splitting of the Damage CTRL faction that she has led since her return at SummerSlam last July.
