Throughout their time in WWE the careers of Bayley and current SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks have been inextricably linked.
From their legendary feud in NXT, to becoming the top female tag team in the company and then going toe to toe in Hell In A Cell matches, the pair make history whenever they are together.
After years of rivalry, and more than one headline grabbing match in NXT, Bayley and Banks joined forces in 2018, before going on to become the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at WWE Elimination Chamber the following February.
The pair would lose the titles just a couple of months later at WrestleMania 35, before Banks would take a hiatus from WWE.
Upon Banks’ return the pair would reunite, eventually becoming the ‘Golden Role Models,’ going on to win the tag team titles once more from Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross on the June 5th 2020 episode of SmackDown.
In a recent interview with Renee Paquette on her Oral Sessions podcast, Bayley has recalled her time with the tag titles, commenting that she wishes her second run with the belts could have lasted longer.
“I still feel like there’s so much more they can do with the tag division… We had so much fun in our second run because that was what we really wanted to do and I wish it could have gone on longer. Just to be a couple of idiots on every single show. I wish we could have done NXT and Raw more. That was how we wanted the tag titles to be represented. Now they have them in NXT. It’s awesome. We were on house shows every week and we’d get thrown in tag matches just to get everyone on the show. We just did a tag match, but we never learned the psychology of tag team wrestling. Once we did that, we sat down with [Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler], learned from them and fell in love with it. It made me want to fight [for the tag team titles] even more. It also gives something for all the girls to do. It also makes you fall in love with wrestling in a different way.”
Bayley and Sasha Banks would eventually lose the titles to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. Following the defeat, Bayley would turn on her partner, leading to another feud between the pair which would eventually see Sasha Banks defeat Bayley to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Elsewhere in the interview, Bayley also lifted the lid on her bizarre Christmas tree related competition with AJ Lee.
While Bayley currently doesn’t have anything announced for WrestleMania, Sasha Banks is set on a collision course with Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair. This has led to an online campaign from fans and WWE Superstars alike to get the match to main event the extravaganza.
