AEW EVP’s The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega were instrumental in the formation of All Elite Wrestling alongside Cody Rhodes, who now resides in WWE.
Back in January, it was reported that The Young Bucks were in discussions for a new AEW contract, though details of those discussions are limited. Speculation has also been swirling about the contract status of Kenny Omega, and a new report from Fightful Select provides some insight on the details of his AEW deal.
According to the report, numerous sources backstage in the company have indicated that they’ve heard Tony Khan say injury time “could be” added to Omega’s contract as he was out of action for a good deal of 2022. The report confirms that the option to extend is present in Omega’s AEW contract, as is standard in deals with the company. However, sources don’t believe the option has been executed as of yet, and some also indicated that because Omega has good representation, there may be some concessions made on the part of the company.
One source told Fightful in 2022 that Omega’s deal would be up “soon,” but another source refuted that by saying “Omega’s deal would not be up that soon.” The second source was proven correct.
The report goes on to reveal that several sources within WWE believe they have the chance to sign Omega when his deal does indeed expire. Despite being rivals, Fightful was told that Omega has a good relationship with WWE, and an especially positive relationship with Triple H after the two had talks to potentially sign him in 2018.
Fightful Select also notes that Omega’s contract with All Elite Wrestling allows him to compete in NJPW as long as it doesn’t conflict with any duties to AEW or if an agreement is made. The star’s last match in New Japan took place on January 5th, where he teamed with Kazuchika Okada to defeat the United Empire. The previous night, he picked up a victory against Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
Kenny Omega And The Elite Are The Current AEW Trios World Champions
Back in September, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks were crowned the first-ever AEW World Trios Champions when they defeated Adam Page and The Dark Order at All Out. However, they were stripped of the title later that week due to their involvement in the now-infamous brawl with CM Punk that took place following the pay-per-view.
After serving a suspension while the circumstances of the brawl were investigated, The Elite returned at Full Gear in a match against Death Triangle, who had won the vacated Trios Title shortly after All Out. Death Triangle were victorious on that occasion, but the two teams embarked on a best of seven series over the following months, and in the end, The Elite regained their title in an Escalera de la Muerte match on Dynamite.
The Elite most recently defended their World Trios Title against the team of Top Flight and AR Fox on the February 8th episode of Dynamite. Despite the best efforts of the young upstart team, The Elite were able to retain.
The group’s next challenge will come in the form of The House of Black as the two teams are set to face off at AEW Revolution on March 5th.
