A new report has revealed Edge’s status with WWE following the last match on his contract.
The August 18th edition of SmackDown was significant for the Rated-R Superstar as he was able to celebrate his 25th anniversary in the company in Toronto. Throughout the show, video packages aired with faces from the star’s past and present congratulating him on his achievement.
Behind the celebrations, though, there was also speculation that his first-ever singles match against Sheamus in the main event of the show would also be the last time the nine-time World Champion would ever wrestle.
After the star was able to put Sheamus away with a Spear for the win, the pair embraced in the ring to close SmackDown. After the cameras stopped rolling, Edge picked up a microphone to thank the fans before admitting that it would be the last time he would be in action in Toronto.
However, he stopped short of saying that he had wrestled his last match, instead remarking that he genuinely didn’t know what the future holds, and that he would have to discuss his next steps with his family.
Edge’s WWE future is currently unknown and “the ball is truly in his court”
Now, WrestleVotes has reported that WWE is just as in the dark about the Ultimate Opportunist’s future as everyone else, with no new deal being signed as yet.
“Asked if anything changed post show regarding the status of Edge going forward. Source said he hasn’t signed a new deal as of now and the feeling among creative and others is that of unknown. The ball is truly in his court.”
