In what was a bumper weekend for WWE, NXT held its latest special Battleground on May 28th.
The event went head-to-head with AEW Double or Nothing in what some believed to be a controversial move, but the action was still praised across the board. The show saw the crowning of a new Women’s Champion, while the brutal Last Man Standing match between IIja Dragunov and Dijack was a massive hit with fans online with many praising it as the match of the weekend.
In the main event, Carmelo Hayes retained his NXT Title with a win over Bron Breakker, but only after being on one of the most-replayed Spears in recent memory.
It appears that the enthusiasm for went also extended backstage. It has been reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that NXT officials were “thrilled” with the event, with one source claiming it was “worlds ahead” of Stand & Deliver.
