Backstage Reaction To Gable Steveson’s Disappointing WWE In-Ring Debut

Shawn Michaels Has

According to a new report, all has gone quiet on Gable Steveson in WWE.

At the Great American Bash, Steveson finally made his WWE in-ring debut, but things didn’t quite go to plan. Despite being presented as the babyface opposite Baron Corbin, Steveson was booed heavily and fans openly and loudly cheered for his opponent.

While Steveson’s previous legal problems are said to have played a role in the negative response, his seeming reluctance to fully commit to a career in WWE hasn’t sat well with others. To make matters worse in the eyes of the audience, Steveson vs. Corbin ended in a double count-out.

This led to a great deal of intrigue around Steveson and what comes next, but it seems he won’t be back in a WWE ring anytime soon. Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said “all is quiet” regarding the star, while “nobody is talking about him backstage.”

“All is quiet when it comes to Gable Steveson. He was referred to in passing on NXT but he wasn’t there nor did they hype anything imminent with he and Corbin even though the double count out finish and pull-apart clearly was done to build a rematch. The world championships are a month away and WWE hasn’t confirmed whether he has permission and is doing it or not. When asking around about him after his debut match didn’t go well as far as fan reaction, we were just told that nobody is talking about him.”

Kurt Angle Says He Knows Why Fans Booed Gable Steveson

While fans booing the Olympic gold medalist might be seen as an act of rebellion, Kurt Angle has a different perspective. Angle believes WWE is deliberately trying to get Gable Steveson booed, and they’re doing it by getting the star to copy him. Reflecting on Steveson’s debut, Angle said this plan was “brilliant.”
