Backstage Reaction To El Grande Americano's WWE Debut

On March 24th, WWE fans saw the in-ring debut of the masked luchador El Grande Americano.

While it was announced ahead of time that Chad Gable was set to wrestle Dragon Lee on Raw in Glasgow, Scotland, Gable appeared earlier in the night and told General Manager Adam Pearce that he was sick and could not perform, handing Pearce a doctor’s note in the process.

With Gable not cleared to compete, the former Tag Team Champion made the counteroffer to have Lee face Grande Americano instead, which was made official for later in the night.

With a masked Gable playing the part of Grande Americano, the two Raw stars put on a great match with Americano securing the victory after ripping off Lee’s mask and applying the ankle lock to get the submission victory.

Speaking about the match on Sportskeeda’s Backstage Pass podcast, WrestleVotes stated that there was heavy praise for the match as both the crowd and those backstage were big fans of the match:

“I did hear there was some heavy praise coming out of that match last night. Gable and Dragon Lee killed it, crowd loved it, people backstage loved it. And that’s no surprise, Chad Gable has been getting this for years and we know what kind of talent Dragon Lee has. So good on both of them, but I did hear that there was some heavy praise backstage for those two men.”

Some Unhappy With El Grande Americano Presentation

Prior to the masked wrestler’s debut, a video package aired highlighting El Grande Americano’s history in the wrestling world. While many fans saw the funny side of the vignette, others took issue with the use of AI and billing the luchador as from the Gulf of America.

Although some are still unsure as to the identity of the mysterious luchador, Big E has a new theory.
