Backstage News On WWE Changing Longterm Plans For Charlotte Flair And Alexa Bliss

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss on WWE SmackDown

WWE SummerSlam will see Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championship once again. The storyline has had the WWE Universe intrigued at times, but unexpected recent developments led to some fan heat, and sources are now revealing how officials have altered plans, and what they have in the works.

Flair and Bliss teamed for the first time on SmackDown at the end of June, winning a Triple Threat to become new #1 contenders. However, the popular duo failed to dethrone The Judgment Day of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at the Evolution II PLE, in a Fatal 4 Way that included The Kabuki Warriors plus the team of Zaria and Sol Ruca.

The Top Girl and The Fear-leader of WWE are set to receive a two-on-two championship opportunity from Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez at SummerSlam. It was reiterated on Wrestling Observer Radio that the early card for The Biggest Party of The Summer included plans for the fifth Flair vs. Bliss singles match, as recent as the end of June.

WWE’s Creative Writing Team made a shift in plans for Bliss and Flair by keeping them together, with a feeling that the top talents are doing great together, so there’s no need to rush the split. It remains to be seen when WWE will break them up, but original plans for the Flair-Bliss team had them splitting up almost immediately, then go into the one-on-one rivalry.

Flair vs. Bliss is still expected to happen at some point, but it has been delayed, and now it’s believed that a big title change will go down at SummerSlam. The crowning of new champions at MetLife Stadium would mark Flair’s second reign with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, and the fourth for Bliss.

WWE SmackDown To Feature First-Time-Ever Match

The road to WWE SummerSlam will continue on Friday’s SmackDown. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will further their feud with Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez.

The Queen defeated Rack Em Up Raquel on last week’s SmackDown, thanks to an assist from her tag team partner, and now the two will be at ringside on this Friday’s episode as Bliss takes on Perez in singles action. This will be the first-ever one-on-one outing for WWE’s Five Feet of Fury and The Prodigy, which some are calling a dream match.

SmackDown will air from the Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio this week. The episode will also feature WWE Tag Team Champions The Wyatt Sicks defending against Andrade and Rey Fenix, plus a segment with Randy Orton, Jelly Roll, Logan Paul, and Drew McIntyre to build to their SummerSlam tag team match.
