Backstage News On Big E WWE Championship Win

A new report has given an insight into the backstage reaction to Big E winning the WWE Championship, including when he found out his was winning the title.

On September 13th, Big E cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to win his first first World Title, pinning Bobby Lashley after the main event of Monday Night RAW. Big E had promised earlier in the night that he would be cashing in his contract and walking out with the WWE Title.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, “almost everyone” was of the belief that the former NXT Champion would win the title. In fact it being talked about soon after he captured the briefcase at Money In The Bank in July. The plans reportedly gathered pace after Super SmackDown when the Randy Orton vs. Bobby Lashley match was moved to RAW from Extreme Rules.

On Saturday plans were firmed up for Big E to move to RAW but creative was kept “close to the vest.” At this point Big E found out he was winning the title. In addition, much of the roster stuck around to watch the star win the championship. This is notable as many talent usually leave before the show ends, while there was said to be “universal elation” at the win.

In the minutes and hours after the show, wrestling figures piled on to social media to salute the new champion. One of the many tributes came from The Man, Becky Lynch.

Speaking on WWE’s The Bump, where the new champion was celebrating his victory, Lynch revealed how Big E has helped her in past, adding that his win gives hope to the world.

Big E signed for WWE in 2009, initially appearing in the Florida Championship Wrestling. As the promotion became NXT the former powerlifter remained in a prominent position, winning the NXT Championship.

The Florida-born star arrived on the main roster in 2012, later winning the Intercontinental Championship. Two years later, Big E was placed in The New Day with Kingston and Woods. The trio went on to become one of the most successful tag teams of all time.
