AEW seems to be nearing a deal with FOX.
Last week, AEW filed to trademark the term AEW Shockwave, leading to speculation about a new show in the works.
Meanwhile, Fightful Select recently reported that sources indicate AEW has been in talks with FOX, although the network has declined to comment officially. The report suggests that while FOX appreciated the ad revenue generated by SmackDown on Friday nights, the show was deemed too expensive. A “cheaper wrestling property” could be an attractive alternative for the network. There is no official confirmation of a deal between the two sides, but it seems talks are heating up.
AEW Deal With FOX “Pretty Darn Close”
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that no deal was currently in place to air All Elite Wrestling on FOX, but that the two sides must be close in negotiations as the trademark for Shockwave was already put through. Meltzer also pointed out that the new program was unlikely to air on FOX itself but rather one of its cable channels or streaming.
“The FOX deal is not done, I know a lot of people have been talking about the idea on the FOX Network but I would strongly suspect it will not be on the FOX Network. It will probably be another station, whether it’s FS1, whether it’s a streaming component.
As far as the Shockwave thing, they did trademark the name. So they have to be pretty darn close to a deal to the lengths of trademarking the name.”
