Mercedes Mone, formerly Sasha Banks, hasn’t wrestled since May 15th, 2022 when she appeared at a WWE live event teaming with Naomi.
24-hours-later the two women walked out of Monday Night Raw while it was in progress and they haven’t appeared for the company since. While WWE reportedly remain “confident” that Naomi will return to the company, The Boss has seemingly set off on a whole new adventure.
Performing under the name Mercedes Mone, the star debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom 17 where she confronted NJPW Women’s Champion KAIRI. This set up a match between the pair at NJPW Battle in the Valley in San Jose on February 18th.
However, what comes next has remained something of a mystery, and speculation continues to link the star with a move to AEW or even a stunning return to WWE.
What Next For Mercedes Mone?
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has explained that the belief is that Mone will be wrestling in Japan at least twice after her match with KAIRI. This will include appearing at NJPW Sakura Genesis on April 8th from the Ryogoku Sumo Hall and at Yokohama Arena on April 23rd for STARDOM.
“The first Mercedes match is obviously going to be in San Jose. Mercedes will be at the Sumo Hall show, which will be her first match in Japan, and I believe her second match in Japan will be on the STARDOM show at the Yokohama Arena. Those are both in April,”
Speaking ahead of her match with KAIRI, Mercedes Mone has promised to take the IWGP Women’s Title “everywhere” should she emerge victorious. The star also stated that she’s preparing to put on the “greatest women’s match of all time.”
