Kenny Omega may have found his next opponent in rising NJPW star Gabe Kidd.
The two had a heated backstage confrontation at Power Struggle, culminating in a brawl that was captured and shared by NJPW’s social media. Earlier in the evening, Kenny Omega cut a passionate promo addressing his future in the ring. While addressing the crowd, he revealed that although he’s still recovering from surgery for diverticulitis, he expects to be ready to compete “in a little bit.”
Omega further expressed his desire to return to action at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, hinting that he is eager to face New Japan’s younger talent. Omega said that despite being under contract with AEW, NJPW holds a special place in his heart declaring that it is still the King of Sports and the best pro wrestling in the world, emphasising that he still considers New Japan his home.
The promo caught the attention of Gabe Kidd, leading to their intense backstage altercation. The clash between Omega and Kidd, who is the current NJPW Strong Openweight Champion, has fuelled speculation about a potential showdown between the two.
Omega has been sidelined for much of 2024 following surgery for diverticulitis. As he nears his comeback, his interest in Wrestle Dynasty and the confrontation with Kidd have set the stage for what could be a thrilling return to the ring for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
What AEW & NJPW PPV Concept Does Kenny Omega Have Mixed Feelings About?
Kenny Omega spoke about his mixed feelings for the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door PPV concept because he feels like since the first event instead of the idea of AEW and NJPW being intertwined is not a “forbidden” concept due to the fact stars from each promotion often appear on each other’s shows so it doesn’t feel special anymore. However, Omega did state that this has opened up the talent pool and allows for more interesting matchups, which he is in favour of.
