According to a new report from Fightful Select, the orginial plans for recently released WWE NXT Superstars Arturo Ruas & Marina Shafir have reportedly been revealed with the duo orignally set to take part in one of NXT’s latest hot angles.
Fightful Select has revealed that up until mid-June creative had plans to utilise Arturo Ruas & Marina Shafir as part of NXT’s newest faction ‘The Diamond Mine’ with many NXT talent still expecting the duo to be involved with the faction even after the groups debut during the culmination of NXT’s June 23rd main event match between NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida and Kyle O’Reilly.
It is added that Shafir’s role within ‘The Diamond Mine’ was understood to be that of a female enforcer within NXT’s new faction and would have seen the former mixed martial artist team with real live husband Roderick Strong alongside Tyler Rust, Hideki Suzuki, with Malcolm Bivens acting as the factions manager.
‘The Diamond Mine’ debuted after months of vignettes on the June 23rd edition of WWE NXT, with Roderick Strong returning after seemingly leaving WWE’s third brand admist speculation of a main roster call up. Strong would lay out reigning NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida seemingly signalling the factions intentions and possibly alligning them with NXT’s reported direct shift of focus within the Cruiserweight Division.
Both Shafir and Ruas were let go from the company following three and six year stints with the Black-and-Gold brand respectively as part of WWE’s mass release of talent on Friday June 25th.
During the same evening WWE parted ways with 14 active roster members alongside newly recruited Monday Night RAW writer Kenice Mobley following her controversial appearence on the ‘Asian Not Asian’ podcast.
