Although he’s currently Mr. Money in the Bank, Austin Theory hasn’t been the luckiest man in WWE, being on a lengthy losing streak that saw the former EVOLVE Champion losing to the likes of Kevin Owens, Johnny Gargano, and Bobby Lashley. The streak was snapped on the latest broadcast of WWE Raw, with Theory besting Mustafa Ali in singles competition.
The win came after Austin Theory executed an ATL on Ali, albeit following a distraction by Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, Ali’s rival who was sat on commentary for the bout. It’s believed that the former RETRIBUTION leader will be Rollins’ first feud as United States Champion, based on this interaction and a prior segment where Ali had challenged ‘The Visionary’.
For Theory, this marked his first televised victory since he defeated Dolph Ziggler on Raw’s August 15th broadcast. Whether intentional or not, WWE also kept the losing streak going during untelevised live events, meaning his last win technically came on August 21st when he again defeated ‘The Showoff’.
Will Austin Theory Cash In Successfully?
Winning the Money in the Bank briefcase as a last-minute addition to the match, Austin Theory has held the case since the start of July, though he’s not exactly kept quiet about his desire to cash in. Both Roman Reigns and Bron Breakker – the Undisputed WWE Universal and NXT Champions, respectively – have endured confrontations from a briefcase-wielding Theory.
He has previously attempted to cash in, running in during Reigns’ Last Man Standing match vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, but this attempt was quickly thwarted. He’s now held the contract for a little over 100 days, which is just less than the reigns of The Miz and Daniel Bryan before their cash-ins.
Currently, only four of the match’s 28 winners have failed their cash-in attempt – John Cena, Damien Sandow, Braun Strowman, and Baron Corbin.
