With WrestleMania 39 fast approaching, WWE United States Champion Austin Theory is gearing up for the biggest match of his career to date when he takes on 16 time World Champion John Cena at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The cocky young Superstar is known for his arrogance on the microphone as well as his skills in the ring, but he recently took time to highlight the impact a current AEW star had on his development.
Austin Theory praises AR Fox for helping his career rise
In a recent chat with Inside The Ropes, Theory noted the important role played by current AEW Superstar AR Fox in his incredible rise towards the top of the wrestling world.
Fox, who learnt his trade under the tutelage of Curtis ‘Mr’ Hughes, has been making waves in recent months including challenging for Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Championship on the first episode of HonorClub TV and competing for the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Top Flight.
But few may know that he also played a key role in the early stages of a certain Austin Theory’s career. The 25 year old WWE United States Champion heaped praise upon Fox when speaking to Alex McCarthy:
“It’s amazing, especially the talent he has and the mindset he has for wrestling. He was the first person that showed me anything at a wrestling school and he took me under his wing and he sacrificed a lot for me to get to where I am. So, I appreciate him a lot and, yeah, I can’t say nothing but good things for him. I’m happy for him.”
Theory is on a roll in WWE, recently successfully defending his United States Championship at Elimination Chamber whilst also defeating WWE Hall Of Famer Edge on the 20th February episode of RAW.
