After a successful stint in The Way in WWE NXT, Austin Theory was drafted to WWE Raw in October of 2021 and gained prominence on the red brand after it was revealed that he’d stolen Vince McMahon’s Cleopatra’s Egg in a tie-in with Dwayne Johnson’s Netflix film Red Notice. In the months to follow, Theory would go on to serve as Mr. McMahon’s protégé, regularly given challenges from the then-WWE Chairman.
At Money in the Bank, Austin Theory lost his United States Championship to Bobby Lashley, but his luck would take a turn for the better in the main event of the show when Mr. McMahon declared him as a surprise entrant in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in the main event of the show. He went on to win the Money in the Bank contract, and despite teasing a cash-in multiple times over the past few months, he held onto the briefcase until the November 7th episode of WWE Raw.
Bobby Lashley Cost Austin Theory His Chance At The United States Championship
On the latest episode of WWE Raw, Seth Rollins declared that he was brining back open challenges for the United States Championship. Though his first promo on the show was interrupted by The Judgment Day and The OC (where it was revealed that Mia Yim had joined The OC to counter Rhea Ripley), his second in-ring promo of the night saw Mustafa Ali interrupt him on the tron.
However, before Ali could once again challenge Rollins, he was attacked by Bobby Lashley, who is still angry at losing the United States Championship to Rollins weeks ago following an attack from a returning Brock Lesnar. Instead of challenging Rollins to a proper match, Lashley laid waste to the champion, beating him up and leaving him laying near the announce table at ringside.
To the surprise of the crowd, Austin Theory made his entrance into the arena while Rollins was down and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract in an attempt to regain the United States Championship. While it looked like Austin Theory would triumph, Rollins kicked out of his initial offense, leaving time for Lashley to once again wreak havoc. With the referee down, Lashley pulled Theory out of the ring and attacked him, applying the Hurt Lock and rendering Theory weakened. In the end, he lost the match to Rollins, adding him to the list of people to unsuccessfully cash in a contract.
