Austin Theory describes what went through his head when he nearly shared a beer with Steve Austin – but didn’t.
After being named Vince McMahon’s protégé following the events of Survivor Series, Theory (formerly known as Austin Theory) was tasked with facing SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38. McAfee was victorious, but after the match, Vince McMahon himself stepped up to give the former NFL player his second match of the night.
After the 76 year old WWE Chairman defeated McAfee, he gloated with Theory in the ring – but was met with retribution when none other than his arch nemesis Stone Cold Steve Austin came to the ring to deliver stunners to everyone involved.
Speaking on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Theory detailed the backstage scene after the match that saw him offered a beer from the Texas Rattlesnake when the star has never had an alcoholic drink in his life.
“It’s so funny. You bring that up, because, okay, so this is something about me, I don’t drink at all. I’ve never had alcohol before. So, literally WrestleMania I get my ass stunned. I’m standing in the back, you know, and, and that’s the thing you wait, you know, for people to come to the back and shake their hand, and, you know, thank you for that out there stunning my ass.
“So, here comes Stone Cold through the back, and he’s got a beer in his hand. And he’s just covered in like beer and I hug him. And he’s like, thanks, I appreciate it. And I’m saying thank you too.
“And there was a moment in my head where I was like, Stone Cold is gonna hand me this beer, and I’m gonna have to chug it. Like, there’s no way like, I’m gonna chug it so fast. I don’t know what’s gonna happen to me, because I’ve never had a beer before. But I gotta chug it, it’s Stone Cold Steve Austin, but he didn’t hand it to me. So everything was good. [Satin asks if he would have drank it] Yes, like water.”
On the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Theory participated in a pose down with Bobby Lashley. To the United States Champion’s dismay, the crowd crowned Lashley the winner.
Though it has yet to be confirmed, it’s rumored that Theory will face John Cena for the United States Championship at SummerSlam upon his WWE return after Cena dropped cryptic hints on social media. Theory in turn has mocked Cena at a live event.
