ROH Women’s World Champion Athena is reportedly injured.

The long-running champion was in action against Viva Van when his incident occurred and those in attendance have revealed what happened.

At the recent Ring of Honor TV tapings in the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon the champ took the up-and-coming Van and one particular spot in the bout left Athena reeling.

According to those in the arena and then reported by PWInsider, the artist formerly known as Ember Moon charged at her opponent, who dodged the attack by ducking out of the way.

Van then pulled down the middle rope, which saw the champ fall through and take a spill to the floor below. The reports state that upon her return to the ring, Athena was limping heavily but was still able to get the win, although in a sequence that leans toward confirming the reports of the injury.

Apparently, the champ drilled Van with a forearm smash and went for the pin. Van kicked out of the pinfall attempt but then stayed down the second time seemingly signifying that it wasn’t the planned finish and Athena was indeed hurt.

How long has Athena been the ROH Women’s World Champion?

The star is in her first reign with the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship, which she secured by defeating Mercedes Martinez at Final Battle on December 10th, 2022. At the time of writing, her reign has surpassed 518 days, making it the longest in the title’s history.

During her tenure with the title, she has successfully defended it on 20 occasions against stars such as Miyu Yamashita, Willow Nightingale, Billy Starkz, Nyla Rose and Hikaru Shida.

She signed with AEW in 2022, after she was released from her WWE contract the year prior, ending a six-year relationship with the company.

Recently Athena announced that she will be out of action for 4-6 months due to her injury.
