ASUKA, known to AEW fans as Veny, has defeated Rina Yamashita to claim SEAdLINNNG’s vacant Beyond The Sea Single Championship.
The belt was vacated by previous owner Yoshiko earlier in the month, owing to accumulative injuries that the then-champion felt needed to be addressed.
As such, Yamashita and ASUKA squared off in a surprise addition to the Grow Together! card, which was already slated to feature the Get A Dream Together tag team tournament.
Having picked up the win, ASUKA becomes just the fifth person to have held the belt, joining the likes of Nanae Takahashi, Arisa Nakajima, Takumi Iroha and the aforementioned Yoshiko.
The loss will likely be a tough one for Yamashita, a former tag team partner of Yoshiko, having narrowly missed out in her bid to win top honours in Ice Ribbon last month also.
Elsewhere, Riko Kawahata and Honori Hana emerged as winners of the six team tournament, despite only wrestling once during the evening.
Having already had a buy into the next round, the tandem’s prospective opponents wrestled to a draw in the first round and were both subsequently eliminated.
This fortuitous occurrence allowed Riko and Honori to sail straight into the tournament finals, where they turned back the battling duo of Chikayo Nagashima and Tsukushi Haruka, who were wrestling their third match of the evening.
The winning team were granted one ‘wish’ and it would appear as though Riko and Honori may have their sights set on current Beyond the Sea Tag Team Champions, Arisa Nakajima and Nanae Takahashi.
