The October 31 Monday Night Raw featured the surprise return of Asuka and Alexa Bliss. Assaulted by Damage CTRL prior to Extreme Rules, the pair had remained absent for almost a month before coming to Bianca Belair’s aid. They ended the night as the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, dethroning Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.
Winning the titles when Alexa Bliss executed Twisted Bliss on IYO SKY, the victory marked her and Asuka’s second and third time holding the championships, respectively. Bliss formerly held the titles twice with Nikki Cross, while Asuka held the titles once each with Kairi Sane and Charlotte Flair.
With this win, Asuka has also set a WWE record by holding the Women’s Tag Team Championships with three different partners, the first to do so. Previously, the record was two different partners, which was held by Nikki Cross, Sasha Banks, and of course Asuka.
Cross held the titles twice with Alexa Bliss, as mentioned, while also becoming champion alongside Rhea Ripley under the moniker of Nikki A.S.H. As for Sasha Banks, she was part of the inaugural champions with Bayley, enjoying a second run with ‘The Role Model’, before regaining the championships for a third time at WrestleMania 38, this time with Naomi.
Asuka’s WWE Title History
Outside of her three reigns as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Asuka is an accomplished performer in the sports entertainment giant. She’s a former two-time Raw Women’s Champion, while also holding both the SmackDown and NXT Women’s Championships once each. This also makes her both a Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion.
Away from championships, the former Kana has also been victorious in a number of match types and tournaments, winning the 2018 women’s Royal Rumble, the 2020 women’s Money in the Bank briefcase, and season one of the Mixed Match Challenge.
