A new report has claimed that a recently arrested AEW star is not expected to return to the company.
On May 23rd, Jake Atlas was arrested and charged with misdemeanour battery (a domestic assault charge) against his partner of several years.
Atlas, real name Kenny Sanchez Martinez, was released from jail the same day he was arrested, and also signed a no contact order on that day that states he will have no communication with his victim and must stay 500 feet away. He is set to appear before the Orange County court on June 28th and will be officially arraigned on that day at 7:30am.
A fresh report has now offered an update on the situation, and Atlas’ status with AEW. The report from Fightful Select notes that Atlas is not expected back with the company.
Multiple sources within AEW also revealed that despite the former NXT star getting the “All Elite” graphic usually reserved for full-time signings, he was actually on a per-appearance deal. While Atlas was injured this agreement was paused, although it has now expired.
After appearing on AEW Dark Elevation in late December 2021, Atlas made his Rampage debut on the January 7th episode of the show. However, this was his final appearance with the company after he suffered an ACL injury during the match.
Jake Atlas joined WWE in 2018, signing a deal with the company a year later. He went on to appear on both NXT and 205 live before being released on August 6th 2021.
Atlas has been open about his mental health struggles since leaving WWE, praising the company for saving his life. The California native revealed that during his time with WWE, they had paid for him to attend therapy for six months.
