Arn Anderson has discussed Charlotte Flair and the possibility that she has to live in the shadow of her sixteen-time champion of the world father, Ric Flair.
Anderson was discussing WrestleMania 32 on an episode of his ARN podcast with co-host Conrad Thompson. During that event, Charlotte Flair faced Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks for the reinstated WWE Women’s Championship.
Charlotte won that match by trapping Lynch in the Figure-Eight Leg Lock causing the Irish star to submit. However, Flair’s father Ric on the floor outside prevented Sasha Banks from re-entering the ring to break up the hold.
The former Four Horseman Anderson discussed Ric’s involvement:
“Like Charlotte doesn’t have enough trouble being Ric Flair’s daughter, you know there’s always that having to live in the shadow. Well maybe, and in this case no. She has never needed Ric to get over; Ric has never needed a rub from her to stay over. They’re individuals who are over.”
“To bring Ric down and get him involved in that match I thought was not necessary. He could have certainly been in the back watching on a monitor. If you wanted to see him, he could have met her halfway down the ramp and congratulated her. To get him involved in that match took just a little bit of lustre away from it and I know the audience always wants to see Ric. That would have been fine – just don’t involve him in the match. I don’t think it added anything.”
A recent storyline on WWE television saw Ric team up with Charlotte’s rival Lacey Evans. Reportedly that was going to lead to a WrestleMania match between the two women before Lacey announced her real-life pregnancy.
Arn Anderson also discussed how he would have used The Rock at WrestleMania 32. The People’s Champ had an impromptu match with Wyatt Family member Erick Rowan on the show.
