With WrestleMania season fast approaching, rumours are swirling about who could challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at ‘The Showcase Of The Immortals’ in April.
Could Dwayne Johnson still headline WrestleMania?
One such rumour that has been rife for months is that Dwayne Johnson, known in the sports entertainment world as The Rock, could make a sensational return to action to face the Tribal Chief at the SoFI Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Previous reports had suggested that The Rock had recently decided to back out of the match, citing a lack of time to get into ring shape for what would be one of the biggest matches in recent memory.
However legendary wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has suggested that it still remains an outside possibility that ‘The Great One’ could headline this year’s Mania. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, he noted;
Anything is possible, and it’s certainly possible he could be keeping everything a secret from all by one or two people, but the word is that he doesn’t have the time to get in the shape. All along, if he has the time to do it, he will do it. Put it this way, most are of the opinion that it’s not happening, and it’s been for months. Those on the inside thought the odds were not good based on his schedule. There’s no such thing as 100% because it’s a very secretive business. Within the company, it’s not looking good
Johnson and Reigns share the same Samoan heritage and some suggested that the former 8-time WWE Champion could return as early as this Monday’s 30th Anniversary edition of Raw, due to take place at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. That would seem wide of the mark now however, with the originally planned ‘Bloodline Acknowledgement Ceremony’ segment now switched to a trial of Sami Zayn.
