Just a few short days ahead of his highly anticipated clash with Cody Rhodes, Anthony Ogogo has revealed that he’s suffered a broken rib in training.
Speaking to Alistair McGeorge of the Metro Ogogo succinctly explained that his rib is “f***ed.”
‘I’m sitting here now – I’m very, very open and honest, probably too open and honest… But I am who I am, I do what I do. I’ve got a broken rib right now.
‘My rib’s broken because I did a move in training this week. I did it wrong, and I broke a rib. I’m now wrestling Cody, the best wrestler in the world, with a broken rib… And that’s real, that’s not me just saying that. My rib is f***ed!”
Before turning to wrestling Anthony Ogogo was an accomplished amateur boxer, winning a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics. The ‘Guvnor’ joined the professional ranks later the same year, however after a string of seven wins, Ogogo was out of action for a year follow an Achilles tendon injury.
While the former Olympian returned to the ring, he suffered his first defeat as a professional at the hands of Craig Cunningham in 2016. During the bout, Ogogo sustained a fractured eye socket which eventually led to his retirement from the sport.
Ogogo who is set to face Cody Rhodes on May 30th, has been training with QT Marshall. On a recent media call, Rhodes described Marshall as “the best trainer in the world.”
