Anthony Bowens celebrates fulfilling a promise he made to his grandmother before she passed away in 2015.
At AEW Dynamite Grand Slam inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, The Acclaimed finally got their first taste of gold in All Elite Wrestling when they defeated Swerve in Our Glory to become the new AEW World Tag Team Champions.
Celebrating the achievement on social media, Anthony Bowens revealed that he made a promise to be a success to his grandmother prior to her passing in 2015. In the tweet, he pointed out that he is the first gay man to be a champion in the company, that he and Max Caster have the most wins of any tag team in the promotion, and that they’re also the most popular tag team – all accomplishments that prove he kept his promise.

AEW Dynamite Grand Slam saw a number of new champions crowned. In the opening contest of the show, Chris Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to become the ROH World Champion, and in the main event, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson to begin his third reign as AEW World Champion. The show also featured the surprise debut of Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE.
